ABC Countdown to Summer Vacation

As a class we are counting down the days until summer, the days until we will be in kindergarten, and approximately until Mrs. Folger's baby comes (which is more days than we have left of school).  Each day will be a different activity. Check our Friday letter for the reminders. At the end of each day we will pop a ballon to see what tomorrow will be.

Down on the Farm

We are starting our Farm Unit.  We will be writing in journals, drawing, and creating different farm animals in class. This week we focused on chicks and sheep.

Down on the farm

This init we are learning about animals. We are continuously working on farm animals. This week we finished learning about wild and zoo animals (wringing in a journal for our first time). Next week we will be learning about bugs/insects- also writing in journals.

We learned about our last letter this week, Zz. The next few weeks we will be reviewing letter recognition and letter sounds. We will continue with adding this week (only numbers 0-5).

Open House

It was wonderful to see so many families at Open House last night! Here are pictures of our colorful classroom filled with the students' work.

Mr. X was last weeks letter.

During our transportation unit we learned about boats. We read a poem, "I Saw A Ship A-Sailing."

We also learned about trains and the different cargo they haul. We read at short story by Pam Schiller, "Engine Ninety-Nine."

We will be starting our Farm unit after spring break, so we have been learning about rabbits.

St. Patrick's Day

Read Across America!

We have been preparing for Read Across America by reading Dr. Seuss books and activities.

Horton thought us that "a person is a person, no matter how small."

We measured our foot with cubes, paper clips, and a ruler after reading "The Foot Book."

For science and art we learned that water color paint will not "paint" on crayon. We colored and painted fish bowls for "One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish." We also graphed colored goldfish, but ate them for a snack.

"The Lorax" is teaching us how to care for our environment.

To celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday we read "Oobleck" and Mrs. Folder was able to catch some Oobleck that fell from the sky at her house yesterday.  This is what we observed from touching the Oobleck:

After reading several Dr. Seuss books we colored book marks of our favorite and graphed our choices.

We ended our celebration with Cat in the Hat "hat" snacks, but that were delicious we ate them before I could take a picture. We had a fun Dr. Seuss, Read Across America Day!
