Unit 6: Market to Market

This unit has been fun for us in our classroom.
In math we practiced measuring objects in our classroom. We worked with our partners to measure the leg of a chair.

The students then wanted us to work together to measure our rug. We got out the cubes and they lined up the cubes around the rug.  Our principal came in to watch and helped me count the cubes on one side.

The last thing the students measured was the width of their tables.

Here are our results:

We learned about the letter V and B during this unit.

During Plan & Play students played different activities with food. The first group that played at the grocery store organized our dramatic play area.

We made turkeys to prepare for Thanksgiving. The turkeys are too cute!

We have been learning about ingredients and recipes. We made butter in class. The students had so much fun and love the butter they made.

We had an assembly for perfect attendance and no tar dies for the first trimester. Great job students and parents!

Unit 5: Fall Into Fall

We are ending unit 5 this Friday. These past couple days we have learned about apples.  Also we are playing one-on-one learning games to prepare for report cards /parent-teacher conferences.

Last week we learned about the letter Yy.

We practiced out fine motor skills by cutting on the ones and making pumpkin puzzle pieces to glue together.

Students used their creativity to create stain glass pumpkins. They look beautiful with the light shining through them.

Students illustrated how pumpkins grow, as well as putting the pictures in order.  We measured our pumpkins that we picked at the school pumpkin patch. We used unifix cubes, counting bears, and tiles to measure the circumference of our pumpkins. Also, students law what the insides of a pumpkin look like. They cut out a pumpkin, drew the pulp, and glued on real pumpkin seeds to create the inside of a pumpkin.

This week we learned about apples and what you can make using apples.  Students used their five senses to describe apples.  All students enjoyed tasting a slice of apple.

Unit 5: Fall into Fall

We are continuing learning about fall, pumpkins, and fall harvest.  This week we went to the school wide pumpkin patch.  Students loved pick the pumpkin that was just right for them.

Can you tell we were excited to pick our pumpkins?

Big? Small? Oh so many pumpkins to choose from.

We found our pumpkins.

We picked a good bunch of pumpkins.  During the week we measured the circumference of our pumpkins with unifix cubes, counting bears, and tiles.  Students did an excellent job measuring and counting.

With the weather getting cooler in temperature and learning about fall, Curiosity had to start wearing a jacket.

We ended our week with our school's costume parade in celebration for Halloween.  We also earned all of our paw points for a celebration. Thank you families who came to take photos and bring in treats for our celebration.

Unit 4 Faces and Places in Our Community

These past two weeks we have been learning about communities and people who work in communities.  This week I have been able to see huge growth in the students academically and social and emotionally.

This week when students wrote their plans for Plan & Play, majority of students began trying to write the word of their play area.

Students created their own restaurants.

Students used roads, buildings, vehicles, and little people to create their own community. One student used the road to create the letter "u" (which is our letter this week).

Students took on community helper roles while using puppets. This last week of the unit students put on puppet shows for each other.  They were great puppeteers and audience.

We also learned about maps and how maps change over time. Students used the car rug as a map while creating their own scenarios Witt the wooden cars and signs.

We learned about the letter "c" and the letter "u." Students love finding the letters we have learned in print and writing the letters on their own.

During centers students worked with each other with puzzle pieces to make a a fire engine.

This week we learned about the letter "u." We sorted pictures by sound and drew pictures that began with /u/.
